regenerative potatoes
The potatoes have already been harvested. Unfortunately, due to the cold spring, the potatoes were planted quite late and the yield is not very high. However, they taste exquisite, and there is no indication of any disease. The potatoes had to find their own way into the soil after planting and there was no soil disturbance. It was nice to see how the potatoes grew next to the mix of plants that had to keep the potatoes healthy in symbiosis. Even today, the plot is still a place frequented by birds. The current standard way of growing potatoes is an intensive way of growing for the soil, which turns out to be a lot less harmful through the regenerative way. No crop protection, insecticide or fertilizer was used during the growth period. Despite this, there has been no infestation of, for example, Colorado potato beetles. The beetles that were there seemed to have trouble finding the potatoes and were tackled by the ladybugs.Next year we will try to refine the cultivation. Considering the yield of a few plants, this regenerative way of growing potatoes can certainly work for me.
Because the potatoes taste so delicious, I sometimes start to wonder what the ideal yield of a potato actually is. In any case, I’m going to try to hold on to this delicious taste in the next crop and not just focus on kilo yield.
