our own bee colony
We have our first real bee colony. We have taken over a bee colony from our neighbors. They are now with us and have done the first reconnaissance flights. It’s already late in the year, but every now and then I see them fledge out on a sunny day. Thanks to our flower mixtures, we still have flowers at the end of November, although I am not sure if they still provide much nectar. This winter I am going to take a course in beekeeping to ensure that I can take care of the colonies myself in the future. Most of the flowers and plants for next year have already been sown, so I hope the bees can benefit from them this spring.
This summer we already had 6 bee colonies visited by beekeeper Auke and they had a good time given the honey yield. The honey tastes very good and probably contains a large proportion of geranium and cornflower nectar, because they flew very fanatically on it almost all summer.
